World of Pets Expo 2023

January 27-29, 2023
Maryland State Fairgrounds
Timonium, MD

Volunteers Needed! (See below.)

Once again, MSDA will have a booth at the World of Pets Expo, the “largest consumer pet show on the East Coast”. Each year, tens of thousands of people and, often, their own pets attend this event. MSDA’s booth is convenient and very visible. People stop by MSDA’s location to meet a sporting dog and to learn about sporting dog activities in general and about MSDA events in particular.

MSDA is seeking club members (or others) to help staff the booth with their friendly, attention-loving sporting dog at least on Saturday 1/28 and Sunday 1/29 between 11 am and 4 pm. If you can work any part of one of these days, please contact Sally Eck via Pointer@mdsportingdog.org. Please include your name, sporting dog breed, and the day/ time you would like to volunteer.

Potential volunteers should be knowledgeable about their breed and be able to discuss and answer questions for the public. This is an easy and fun way to satisfy the annual volunteer requirement for MSDA voting membership. Don’t worry if you don’t know a lot about upcoming MSDA activities – we’ve got that part covered. You’ll have fun showing off your sporting dog and will enjoy the company of experienced MSDA members. Also, volunteers who sign up before the end of 2022 will receive a free admission to the Pet Expo.

World of Pets Expo hours are:
Friday 1/27: 2:00 pm-8:00 pm
Saturday 1/28: 10:00 am-7:00 pm
Sunday 1/29: 10:00 am- 5:00 pm

Daily general admission is:
$12 for Adults
$5 for Children 5-12
under 5 FREE
Parking is free.

MD World of Pets Expo, Jan 2022

The Expo is always fun and this year was no exception. The weather mostly cooperated and the turnout, both at the event in general and at the MSDA booth, was excellent.

MSDA had a highly visible location near the dock diving and lots of people (and their pets) came by the booth. There were dogs for sure, and also other pets including a goat on a leash, a pig in a wagon, and even a snake! People asked questions, learned about MSDA and our activities, and picked up information about future events. Special thanks to Sally Eck, who organizes our presence at this event each year, and to Cooper the Clumber Spaniel who spent time at the booth greeting 2022 visitors.

We plan to be back next year! If you have questions and/or would like to help with MSDA’s booth at the World of Pets in 2023, please contact Sally Eck via pointer@mdsportingdog.org

World of Pets Expo 2020

MSDA had a booth at the 2020 World of Pets Expo at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium MD. The Expo was Friday 1/24 – Sunday 1/26.

We made a lot of new friends — many Expo attendees were not familiar with MSDA and followed up by signing up for upcoming Instinct Clinics and by getting more information about Field Day and club membership. Old friends came by to say “hi”, too. And, of course, kids loved meeting a bird dog!

There were many other booths with products and information for dogs and every other pet. Also a petting zoo, dog agility competitions, and dock diving.

Special thanks to Sally Eck for organizing this and to Bree the English Setter for being such a great (and patient) representative of sporting dogs.

MSDA at Maryland Hunting & Fishing Day 9/23/2017

Maryland Sporting Dog Association participated in the 11th Annual Maryland celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day. The event was Saturday 9/23/2017 at Izaak Walton League of America in Clear Spring MD.

Though the event’s attendance was somewhat smaller than in previous years, MSDA had a large display including photos and videos of MSDA dogs and events, and general information about sporting dogs and the club. We had good conversations with attendees about their dogs, potential field activities, training needs, and one of our member’s upland hunting trip with veterans in collaboration with the Wounded Warrior Project.

Other Hunting and Fishing Day activities included archery, fly/spin casting practice (on the lawn), rifle, trap, and BB gun shooting, and displays by state government, private businesses, and conservation groups.
