MSDA’s inaugural Master Gundog Challenge (MGC) is designed for elite gundogs – spaniels, retrievers, and other flushing breeds – to demonstrate their proficiency in advanced upland work, waterfowl work, and teamwork. It will be held Saturday April 11 at Mt Ararat Farm in Port Deposit, MD as part of MSDA’s Spring Hunt Test Weekend. This page contains the entry form. Use the buttons above to learn more about the 2025 Master Gundog Challenge as well as AKC Spaniel Hunt Tests on Saturday and Sunday of that same weekend.
How to enter:
Entry for the Master Gundog Challenge is online only using the form at the bottom of this page. Please review the MGC description and entry requirements before signing up. Entries close Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET). Entries are not complete until payment is received. Paper entry forms and/or checks or cash will not be accepted. The Master Gundog Challenge does not accommodate on-site registration.
All handlers and guests are required to provide a signed MSDA liability release and a signed release for Mt Ararat Farm. The MSDA release is incorporated in the entry form below. Please download, sign and bring the Mt Ararat release with you to the event. Both forms also will be available at the Master Gundog Challenge when you check in.
Cancellations, Waitlists and Refunds:
Completed entries may be cancelled for any reason until entries close at 11:59 PM on April 1. Refunds, less a $5.00 processing fee per dog, will be provided to the original form of payment.
Entry fees paid for a dog withdrawn after 11:59 pm on April 1 because of coming in season, injury, illness, or death, shall be refunded, less a $5.00 processing fee per dog. A veterinary certificate is required for all such refunds. Requests and documents must be presented prior to the test. There will be no refunds for “no shows” or late cancellations for other reasons. If you need to cancel your registration, contact the Hunt Test Secretary, Pamela DeSmidt, at Pamela@mdsportingdog.org .
No entry fee will be refunded if the test cannot be opened or completed by reason of riots, civil disturbance, an act of God, public emergency, act of a public enemy, or any other cause beyond the control of MSDA or the Hunt Test Committee.
If the maximum number of entries is reached, dogs may be waitlisted before or after the closing date. No fee will be charged for being added to the waitlist. However, all entry fees must be paid before the dog may be run in the test.
Once you have submitted the form and payment, you will receive an emailed payment confirmation directly from PayPal and will be added to the list of entrants. If you don’t receive your confirmation email as expected (check your spam/junk folder!) or experience problems filling out the entry form or making your payment, please contact the Test Secretary, Pamela DeSmidt, at Pamela@mdsportingdog.org.
