Meeting: A brief but informative annual MSDA membership meeting will be held on Saturday 2/29 in the main conformation building at Howard County Fairgrounds immediately following the completion of best-in-show judging during our Spring Event. Meeting agenda items are expected to include: approval of minutes; secretary’s report on membership and communications; treasurer’s report on revenues, expenses and current financial position; brief summaries of major club activities during 2019 and plans for 2020; and election of board members for the coming year. Club members will receive an email with more specific information two weeks before the meeting. If you are an MSDA member but have not been receiving the monthly newsletter or other emails, please send your current email address to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope many members will attend the annual meeting this year. You do NOT need to attend the dinner to be a part of the meeting, but the dinner is going to be pretty good, so read on!
Dinner: After the meeting on Saturday 2/29, MSDA members and their guests are invited to a catered dinner & seminar in the 4H building of the Howard County Fairgrounds. There also will be a silent auction of some great baskets of doggy items.
** Reservations are required for the dinner + seminar. See form below. **
The dinner menu includes: fresh veggies and fruits for hors d’oeuvres, homemade cream of crab soup, caesar salad, chicken breasts with sage stuffing, crab cakes, cheese tortellini with tomato sauce and garlic bread, roasted red potatoes, string beans, fresh-baked apple and pumpkin pies, and assorted sodas and other non-alcoholic drinks. It’s going to be quite a spread!
Seminar: Sherry Seibel, DVM will present a somewhat condensed version of her popular seminar on dog first aid. This will be a one-hour overview of CPR techniques, the when, how and why to do it; what should be in your first aid kit and how to customize it to suit your needs; review of rescue techniques such as the Heimlich for your dog if choking; heatstroke, frost bite, how to make and use a muzzle, splinting do’s and don’ts, emergency preparedness and two excellent apps for your phone for reference. “Dr. Sherry” also will be available to answer questions after dinner.
The dinner + seminar is being hosted by the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club (USA); they are having a Regional Specialty at MSDA’s dog show on Saturday 2/29. The Toller club has graciously invited MSDA members, their families and other guests to also attend. MSDA is subsidizing the cost for its own members and guests.
Longtime MSDA members will remember that we used to have a membership dinner in conjunction with our annual membership meetings each spring. Since moving the event from Charles County to Howard County we have been unable to arrange this. However, with the help of the Toller club, we have the opportunity to try again this year in hopes of restarting the tradition. We are expecting more than 50 people to attend, so it should be a lot of fun!
Reservations: The cost of the dinner + seminar is only $20 per person for MSDA members and their guests. Reservations and pre-payment are required and must be received by Saturday, February 15th. However, reservations may close earlier if we reach our maximum of 100 diners, so don’t wait until the last minute!
